I’ll be honest: the first half of this book moseyed along like it had nowhere urgent to be… but the second half? It slapped. It slapped me, then backhanded me, then probably whispered “don’t say I didn’t warn you” while walking away in slow motion. And honestly, that’s all I’m asking from a thriller. I want slappage. I want chaos. I want to see stars. And I saw about four of them by the time I finished.
Annabelle, happily married with two daughters, starts having premonitions — and not the “your kid will spill juice on the couch” kind. These are bad. Ominous. Vibes so off they need their own restraining order. She’s trying to figure out which visions are real and which are just her brain playing hopscotch, but her husband is fully convinced she’s conducting the Crazy Train straight to Bonkersville. So… he’s useless.
Enter Chase, her new client. They click instantly — close friends, borderline too close friends — and suddenly Annabelle has someone who actually listens, empathizes, and doesn’t treat her like she’s auditioning for a paranormal reality show. It’s the tiny pocket of comfort she desperately needed.
And then — SLAP — the secrets start oozing out of this book like your kid’s busted slime container. The back half becomes a full‑tilt page‑turning frenzy. Lies. Secrets. Suspicion. Everywhere. Yet somehow, by the end, I still walked away with the warm fuzzies, like the book tucked me in and said, “There, there, chaos builds character.”
Yes, the beginning dragged a bit. The setup took its sweet time. But the somersault‑down‑the‑hill that followed absolutely made up for it.
If you like shady characters mingling with wholesome family vibes, this is for you.
If you like moms on a mission to save their people, this is for you.
If you like plot twists that smack you across the face, this is definitely for you.
