The Dahlia Suite landed at a solid 3 stars for me — the kind of read that’s fun, flashy, and full of secrets, even if it occasionally feels like it’s juggling too many plot threads at once. And listen, I will always show up for stories about the messy, glamorous underbelly of celebrity life. Give me luxury hotels, curated chaos, and famous people behaving badly, and I’m already halfway through the book before I realize I’ve forgotten to eat lunch.
This one absolutely delivered on the drama buffet: multiple mysteries, multiple women, multiple “wait… what?” moments. But it also wandered a bit, like it couldn’t decide which scandal wanted to be the main event. Still, I devoured the women’s stories — raced through them, really — and loved watching them eventually link arms and hunt down the perpetrator like a very chic, very stressed girl squad.
The twists? They were tasty.
Mara being alive — didn’t see that coming, adored every second of it. Paige’s husband being the criminal — of course he was. It is always the man who seems aggressively perfect, like he moisturizes twice a day and has a suspiciously clean emotional history. I clocked him early, and honestly, sometimes it’s satisfying to be right. I’ll take my victory lap.
Where the book wobbled for me was the overall cohesion. I wanted a bigger, bolder central storyline — something that tied the three women together from page one and simmered into a full‑blown pot of “WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING.” Instead, their arcs blended more gently, like a polite whisk instead of a chaotic stir. I wasn’t emotionally wrecked, and frankly, I like my books to emotionally punt me into the sun.
But as a summer read? Oh, it shines.
This is the perfect book for a beach day, a kid‑free weekend getaway, or a backyard pool where the birds provide the soundtrack and you pretend your SPF 50 is actually a tan accelerator. It pairs beautifully with an unnecessarily complicated cocktail — the kind with herbs you didn’t know you owned — and a sunhat that makes you feel like you’re hiding from paparazzi.
Fun, dramatic, and just messy enough to keep you entertained.
