I’m starting this review with a definition because the title of this book slapped me with a word I have never used in my daily life. If you already know it, congratulations — you win the gold star, the spelling bee, and probably custody of the brain cell I dropped somewhere in chapter three.

Astral (adj.): relating to a nonphysical realm where psychic and paranormal nonsense apparently clock in for their 9–5.

Anyway. Enter Alix. This girl is DOWN BAD. Like, “life is throwing wrenches and she’s catching them with her face” down bad. She’s just trying to survive adulthood when suddenly — BAM — she walks straight into what feels like a Disney movie directed by someone who’s had too much caffeine.

Because this library? Oh, it has vibes. I’m talking books swirling dramatically, sparkles in the air, a full‑blown “Welcome to the Astral Library!” musical number happening while I stand there like a background character, confused AF. The books have character (lol sorry, I had to) and are thrilled to see me, which is more enthusiasm than I get from most humans.

Then Alix gets the offer of a lifetime: Pick your favorite book and literally jump inside it. Not metaphorically. Not spiritually. Literally climb into the plot like it’s a portal at IKEA and become a supporting character. Stay for the story… or stay forever. Casual.

But of course, fairytales love chaos. Just when things start looking magical — poof. You’ve followed the librarian down a path you absolutely did not sign up for, and suddenly you’re in a place that feels like the author said, “What if we just… didn’t explain anything?” You don’t know where you are, what’s happening, or how this is going to end, but you’re committed now. Congratulations.
