This was my first Aggie Blum Thompson read, and let me tell you — our girl did not stroll in casually. She kicked the door open, dropped this book on the table, and whispered “They’re not ready.” Then she proceeded to prove it. Repeatedly. At one point I genuinely said out loud, “Okay… she’s just toying with us now.”
Welcome to Suburban Scandal, my favorite genre of mess. The houses? Immaculate. The lawns? Manicured within an inch of their lives. The housewives? Sneaky, unhinged, and absolutely thriving in the chaos. This time we’re following three couples on the same cul‑de‑sac — the kind of neighbors who grill together, vacation together, swap childcare, and pretend they’re living the dream. It’s giving HGTV meets psychological warfare.
But you and I both know: in thriller territory, “perfect” is just code for everyone is lying and something terrible is about to happen.
Sure enough, after one particularly spirited cookout — and a few beverages that should’ve come with warning labels — a single secret slips out and detonates the entire neighborhood. Suddenly we’ve got murders, blackmail, hidden identities, infidelity… honestly, Aggie opened the scandal buffet and said “Take a plate.” It’s 326 pages of pure, delicious chaos.
Plot twists? Oh, sweetheart. Aggie doesn’t give plot twists — she throws them at your face. She keeps smacking us around until the final page, and if I’m not at least mildly emotionally bruised by the end of a thriller, I feel cheated. So yes: well done, Aggie. Truly.
Do yourself a favor and grab this book. You’ll thank me later.
